about

I was playing a progression on my mandolin using no 3rds, so it sounded real open and contemplative. My wife picked up on that and wrote the lyrics to Demelza's Song. From the BBC show, 'Poldark'. Featuring mandola and fiddle.

lyrics

How many times have we parted, how many times we've come back again
Each time seems harder, and each time I wonder where you've been

Dreams and times we've forgotten, wove their way into our hearts
Such a long history together, through lonely seasons and false starts

Home is a place to return to, that's what you say you don't need
But I need to know for certain, where it is you want to be

Ooh, go the other way, ooh, miles apart
Ooh, go the other way, don't ride away into the dark

Winds blow wild on the coastline, seabirds hang on the breeze
Balancing against each other, we find our way, clear and free

How many times have we parted, how many times we've come back again
Each time seems harder, and each time I wonder where you've been

Home is a place to return to, that's what you say you don't need
But I need to know for certain, where it is you want to be
